Here’s how to make a walk even more fun for your dog
Going for a walk is wonderfully relaxing. Especially when you go out with your four-legged friend. Not only does it make you happy, it makes your dog happy too! You both get exercise and fresh air. There is plenty for your dog to experience: new smells, other dogs or fun toys. But can it actually hurt if you take a call from a friend during your walk?
Happy dog
Research shows that owners become happier when they see their dog happy. In fact, their stress levels drop! Unfortunately, that same research found that owners don’t focus enough on their dog’s behavior to experience that reduction in stress. Incidentally, that’s not the only thing, because inattention can also cause you to lose connection with your dog.
When you pay full attention to your dog, you will be able to observe his behavior better. You can respond to what he does, correct what he should not and avoid unsafe situations. This is nice for your dog.
Distracted
Most of the time, your phone is the reason you are distracted. Besides the fact that it can disrupt your connection with your dog, it can also cause you to notice a dangerous situation too late. This could be something poisonous that your dog is eating, for example, or another animal he wants to go after. If you watch your dog, you will be able to see those situations coming and avoid them.
Phone in your pocket
The best way to make your walk as fun as possible is to leave your phone in your pocket. Play with your dog and pay attention to the critter. Your dog will like that, but it will also make you experience less stress yourself. Instead of your phone, hold his favorite toy in your hand. However, don’t hesitate to grab your phone for a cute photo of your faithful four-legged friend!
